2009 Entering Class (Block I)

This page will be updated whenever additional information becomes available. Please check back frequently!

From the Block I Office

The following information is from the Block I Office, part of the Office of Academic Programs (OAP). If you have any questions or concerns regarding curriculum, academics, course waivers, class schedules, or exam dates, call the Block I Office at (517) 884-1857 or email Lora McAdams, Block I Curriculum Assistant, or Dr. Cindy Arvidson, Block I Director. For any questions or concerns about CHM policies, email Dr. Janet Osuch, Assistant Dean, Preclinical Programs.

MANDATORY ATTENDANCE DAYS

Students are REQUIRED to be on campus on the first day of classes each semester and the first day following any mid-semester break. The dates you are required to be on campus for the 2009-10 Academic Year are:

Prematriculation: Saturday, August 22, 2009 – Sunday, August 30, 2009
Monday, August 31, 2009
Monday, November 30, 2009
Monday, January 11, 2010
Monday, March 15, 2010
Monday, May 17, 2010

There are also REQUIRED small group meetings during the week of Thanksgiving (Monday, November 23 - Wednesday, November 25, 2009).

On August 27, 2010 (tentative), you will have a REQUIRED Block II Orientation.

The above list is NOT all-inclusive. Expect additional dates to be added to this list.

These dates are provided to you in advance so that you may make vacation/other plans accordingly.

Special Requests

If you would like to make any special requests regarding your schedule for labs and/or small groups (clinical skills), you must email Lora McAdams by July 15, 2009. You must provide a substantive reason for making this request - simply wanting an earlier lab time, for example, is not a valid reason. Reasons for making special requests include such things as child care issues, work or research, carpooling, or a long commute. When making your request, provide your preferred time(s) for lab/small groups and a substantive reason for your request. Examples of substantive reasons include:

Please keep in mind that all scheduling requests may not be granted; sometimes it simply isn't feasible. The Block I Office will try to accommodate all reasonable requests, but do not assume your request has been granted until you are notified of your final schedule.
